Lorrie is a Cute with Chris viewer in Virginia who sent in these pics of her three-legged cat named Handicat. "Handi grew up on the street," she writes. "She was a stray when she first came by my apartment. She was emaciated, wet with rain, and in need of a good human companion. I invited her in for a tuna dinner and the next day made a vet appointment. She was underweight and had a bad case of fleas and ear mites but otherwise she was in good health.
I got her spayed and fattened her up on plenty of cat food. The vet thought she was approximately 1 year old when I got her, so that makes her 4 now.
The vet also said that she had been born without the leg and that this type of abnormality occurs when the umbilical cord wraps around a limb before birth. Today, Handi is totally lovable, loves to be picked up and held, and has a peculiar habit of playing with water.
You can barely run a shower around her with out her pawing at the door wanting to be part of the action. Other than the missing leg and her love of water, she's a totally normal cat; she runs, jumps, plays, and gets into mischief. I don't think she even knows she's missing the leg."
