I recently launched a new audio reading series that's turned in to a Top Ten podcast on iTunes. Here's the way it works: I write some short essays, then I call up a theatre in whatever city I happen to be in, and ask if I can have stage time. I put a post on the internet telling people that I'll be reading stories, and miraculously, people actually show up to listen. I walk out on stage with a small digital recorder and a handful of paper, and I read the stories that I wrote. After they're recorded, I upload them to my iTunes page so people all over the world can listen to them.
