Libby writes: "...Hey Chris, I just thought I should let you know that Penelope, my hairless rat, passed away today. She was in surgery for the third time to get a tumor removed, and though the it was successfully removed, she died shortly after. Her just as adorable, though much less famous, sister Calliope is going to be very lonely. I ate dinner with her on my lap in her brand new rat sack, and I'm trying to give her as much attention as possible. I just wanted you to know about Penelope, because I know you two were close. -Libby, 16, Minneapolis."

what is it with rats and tumors?!! as 'we' use them for experiments, why doesn't some noble scientist explore what the hell is going on with their lil bodies and discovery something to help them.
sorry for your loss....

wait you paid actual money for surgery on a RAT?!?? an animal with the life expectancy of like a few years! Americans have far too much money.
Posted by: will | September 14, 2009 at 06:52 AM
Hey, Will. Rats have just as much a right for life as you, I would gladly pay if it let my pets live longer.
I'm sorry to hear about Penelope. ):

Rat sack...

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only person who found "rat sack" to be the most disturbing/awesome phrase ever.

Girl, I'm so sorry to hear this! I had a little bunny rabbit who went under to get neutered, and he never woke up from the anesthesia... It's the tiniest pets that leave the biggest paw prints on our hearts! Keep your chin up, and focus on helping Calliope through the grieving process (rats DO grieve!!)

Sorry to hear about your rat. One of my rats, Squee, died not too long ago also. I love them to death but I don't think I can handle having any more once these one's are gone. They pass too easily and I get too attached.
Sorry again!

Squee? As in Squee from JtHM?
Too bad. So sad.
Poor rat.

aw im so sorry libby to hear about your loss, but stay strong and hang in their lil buddy. weve all experienced our deaths of loved ones especially our beloved rats. I dont think there is anything else more devastating then when I lost little filipey. Rats are like an aconda .. one day they squeeze you with their love, the next they drowned you in the amazon river. Its a roller coaster effect, but we will all get threw it.
