Last year I started a trap-neuter-vaccinate-release program for the stray cats that live on my university campus in Beijing. It's been going great (even though I have to pay for it myself). But wouldn't you know it, just as I was down to the last two or three cats in the 20-strong colony, word on the street got out that I'm running a shelter. Which is not true, of course, but how do you tell 1.3 billion Chinese anything? Now students are "rescuing" kittens from around the city and dropping them off. I'm afraid to leave my apartment for fear of finding another one like the little bag of bones I picked up the other day. She's in a foster home now, but she's inexplicably missing almost all of her claws. WTF? That's what I get for trying to make a difference, Chris. More kittens, more problems.
